FRIDAY!!!!! YAY

It is finally Friday.  Yesterday was not the greatest day of the week.  Kids didn't want to behave and I wasn't in a mood to deal with it so needless to say it wasn't a good day for any of us.

It finally took a turn for the better after dinner when I pushed Sarah in the stroller for a jog while my husband carried Yana in the backpack on his back for a bike ride.  It felt great to get out and exercise.

Today, however, is Friday and a wonderful day it has started out to be.  We had a good morning.  No arguing over breakfast, no yelling or crying from my girls.  It was wonderful.

So after breakfast and after letting it it warm up a little outside we went for a walk.  We walked for a half an hour before we went to the park.  We met some friends of ours there and visited for while before coming home.  It was a great walk and a lot of fun.  I love my girls and I love spending time with them.  Of course there will be days when we don't anything like each other.  The sooner I come to terms with that the better for all of us. lol.

Have a wonderful Friday.  I might be doing a bike race tomorrow morning.  I'll let ya'll know.

Cake Decorating week 3

Cake decorating class this week was a lot of fun.  We got to learn some of the flowers that I have been really excited for.

This is the lily that we learned in class. It was actually really easy.  It will definitely take practice to make them look better but it was relatively painless.
Here is a close up of the lily.
Here are all of them except the lily.  When I got home I made more.  I figured since I still had icing in the bags why not practice and make some more.
This is the Wilton Rose.  We learned earlier how to make a different rose which was nice but I was really excited to learn how to make this one.  Some are better than others.
Here is one of the daffodils that I made.  It was a fun flower but I never did get it to look the way I wanted.
Here is the violet.  It will take a lot more practice but not but for just learning.

It was a lot of fun.  Next week is the last class in this course and we are to bring a cake already iced and read to decorate.  We will be learning how to do the basket weave and then we will be placing already made flowers on them.  I'm really excited.  It should be a lot of fun.

Pumpkin pie was a success!!

The other day I mentioned that I was making pumpkin pie from scratch and that I would share pictures with you later.  Sorry it has taken so long.  It has been one of those weeks where I feel like I am doing so much but nothing is getting done.
This is a picture of the pumpkin and the tools that I used.  I tried the sawing motion it recommended on the internet and it didn't work.  I tried to stick the knife straight in and then push down.  That didn't work.  I almost couldn't get the knife back out.  So I went out and got my husbands rubber mallet and that worked.  I got the knife back in a sawing motions for about 1/4" and then used the hammer to hit one side and then the other in order to work it all the way through.  Not the safest way but affective.
This is what it looked like after I had spooned out the insides.

You can microwave them but I don't have any glass bowls that have lids so I chose to steam them.  It takes about as long as the microwave.  I steamed them for about 30 minutes.
My steam pan isn't that big but it held half of the pumpkin at at time.

So here is a cooked half of pumpkin.  I then cut it into 3 slices and used a spoon to spoon the pumpkin out of the shell.  Really easy.  It practically fell out just needed a little prompting.
After all was said and done I made a pumpkin pie.  One pumpkin made one pie for us.  It was perfect.  The pie was SSOOO yummy.  I think I'll do another pumpkin next week for cookies or just to freeze.  It took quite a bit of time so I didn't want to do all 4 in one day.  I should have because then they would all be done but I figured they were fine on my window sill.

I love learning new things.  This was a lot of fun.  It makes me want to get a pressure cooker.

Pumpkin pie

Normally I make pumpkin pie every year from scratch...starting with a can of pumpkin.  I add all the other ingredients but I have never done if from a true scratch.  A friend of mine was telling me that she buys the sugar/pie pumpkins and makes her pies from scratch.  She said it wasn't that hard and that she could teach me how to do it.

I'm game.  Of course.  I love learning new things and right now I'm really big into learning new skills for the kitchen.  I also think it would be a great way to help add things to our food storage.

So I bought 4 pie pumpkins and we were just waiting for a good time to get together so she could teach me how to do it.  Well our schedules kept clashing and last night my husband asked if we could have pumpkin pie for Family Home Evening tonight.

I was going to ask my friend if she had time to show me today but she is sick so with text message help and instructions on the internet I am giving it a try today.  I have started and I have taken some pictures.  I'll post again on it after everything is said and done.  I am so excited!

Sarah meets Coffee Table

I said I would share pictures of our Friday night adventure and here they are.  Even after we got home she is still our cute little girl who loves to pose for the pictures.
She is showing us where she hit the table.
They had to cut some of her gum out but it is hard to see because I couldn't pull her lip down far enough without hurting her.
She is doing good.  Her chin is bruised but her lip already looks almost healed besides the fact that it is still swollen.  She is running around playing and doesn't seem to notice anything different.

She is such a brave little girl.  She didn't give the doctor a bit of problem.  No screaming, crying, or being afraid.  She just let them work.

Saturday went better.  We went to the zoo and then got some frozen yogurt.  It was a good day.

I hope that you had a good weekend.  What did you guys do?

Fun flex day turned not so fun.

Well the day started out great and was going great until it was time to get our girls ready for bed.  We had them (and us) all dress in our pajamas.  That is the best place to start.  Sometimes that can be a struggle in itself.  I was playing with Sarah...chasing her around, having fun.

So then I was tickling her so much she had to run to the bathroom.  She said she was going to get me and that I should run.  So I ran from her into the living room.  I turned quickly thinking that she wasn't running that fast and could follow me easily.  Well I was wrong.  I turned and she tripped.  She was just close enough that she hit the edge of the coffee table coming down.

Tears and blood came quickly.  We grabbed a washcloth as fast as we could picked her up, comforted her and then tried to look at the damage.  It looked like her tooth had gone through her lip and that part of her lip on the inside was caught around her teeth.

So I called my friend and we dropped Yana off on our way to the ER.  We got there, filled out the paperwork and then waited.  We called our home teacher and waited some more.  We were then lead to a room to take her vitals and then to another room to wait some more.  It amazes me that in an emergency room things are so slow and we spend so much time waiting for things to happen.

How home teacher came over and helped my husband give her a blessing.  After he left we waited some more and eventually the doctor came in.  He didn't think the tooth went through her lip but that she had bit her lip.  They cleaned it to check but nothing changed about that diagnosis.  Next they looked in her mouth and we saw what was happening.  The table had cut her gums and they were just kind of hanging from her teeth.  So the doctor cut it off.  We are hoping that wasn't a mistake.

Her lip is all swollen and her gums look...well let's just say interesting.  She is supposed to eat soft stuff for a while so it doesn't hurt her mouth.

So tomorrow I'll call a dentist I know and see what he thinks we should do.  Well here we are just watching a movie.  Have a good night.  I'll share pictures tomorrow or Monday.

Friday = Flex Day!!!

Today is Friday....just in case you weren't completely sure.  It also happens to be the every other Friday when my husband doesn't work.  They are beautiful days.  Today has been no different.  We haven't done too much and probably wont.  Just enjoying time spent with each other.

This morning we went out to eat at Cracker Barrel.  It is funny to think that a little over a year ago was the first time I had ever eaten at a Cracker Barrel.  It has fast become one of my all time favorite restaurants.  After that we went looking for tires for my car.  It is in need of new tires.

After that we came home.  Yana took a nap while I finished my Halloween table runner.  Then I posted it.  While I was sewing my husband had to run into work to grab a few things so he took Sarah with him.  She is a big hit in his office.

After they got back I took Sarah with me to Hobby Lobby where we bought some really cute material for the upcoming fall/Thanksgiving season.  I'm so excited.  I am hoping to get more than 4 done.  Hopefully with my new system I should be able to get twice that done in a month.  Then we went to Jamba Juice, Quiznos and back home.  Now we are sitting in the garage watching my husband change my transmission oil.

Sarah likes to go flower picking in our yard.  She likes to pick the heads off of all the little purple flowers that are blooming.  It got me thinking back to when we had a mum in our kitchen in New Jersey.  She was modeling some new pajamas on the table and accidentally sat on the mum.  Here take a look.

She is such a cutie.  It got me looking at other pictures from New Jersey and she looks so much like Yana.
Here is one of her on our table modeling her new pajamas I had just finished sewing.
She was either playing with her dad's phone or talking to her Grandma on the phone.
We get em started young lol.  No she just saw us holding the phones like that and it wasn't doing what she wanted it to so she was so frustrated.

They grow so fast.  I can hardly believe that she is already 3 1/2 years old.  Next year she can go to pre-k in a public school and she is just growing too fast.

Well I better get off of here and do something useful lol.

Have a good Friday and weekend.  I'll get one more Halloween runner posted next week and then I'm starting on my next set of runners.

Halloween Table runner 2 of 3 is posted

This is another Halloween table runner.  I did the zigzag look on this one as well.  The last one does not have a zig zag in it so if you like the zig zag look then this is the one that you will want.

It is made with cotton material and low loft batting.  I pieced it together and then used free motion stitching to hold the layers together.  It has orange thread in the middle and black on the binding.

The back is solid black other than the stitching so the orange stitching and orange binding really stand out.

It is very durable and will last you many many years.  It can be machine washed and dried as well as ironed.  I would recommend that you wash with like colors.

There are more pictures on my store so be sure to check out my store IdahoAtHeart.

Halloween Table Runners update

I was hoping to have another Halloween Table runner to post to my store by tomorrow and I think I will.  This week I got an alteration job.  A girl needed a prom dress taken in for Homecoming.  I finished it last night so now I can get back to putting the binding on the runners.  I hope to get one finished today and then if the weather is nice tomorrow I'll take pictures and get it posted tomorrow.

Well the youngest just went down for her nap so I need to get in my sewing room.

Halloween pajamas

Last year my sister in law bought my oldest these cute Halloween Pajamas and they were a bit big.  They are still a bit big but she loves wearing them.  Yesterday we got a Halloween package from my sister in law and her husband with several Halloween things for our girls.  My youngest got these super cute pajamas.  They even glow int he dark.  They are super cute in their pj's.  I haven't been so excited for Halloween since I was a little kid and got to go trick or treating.  They are so much fun.  Sarah - my oldest decided that she wants to be a dog for Halloween.  So I bought material and will be making her an outfit before too much longer.  Sarah got those socks yesterday and loves them.  She doesn't want to take them off.

It looks like we will be in Idaho for Halloween so it should be perfect.

Cake Decor

Last week the class was canceled as you know and I was really disappointed.  I was glad that our instructor didn't want to get us sick but I was so excited to learn how to use Royal Icing.  So this week was just awesome.

Tuesday morning I finished rolling the parchment bags that we would use with the Royal icing.  I also made two batches of Royal icing.  I measured it out to the amounts that were needed.  Then I turned some yellow, pink, and green.

In this class we worked on the bases to the new rose we will be learning next week.  We also made Apple Blosoms, primroses, and rosebuds.  The only pictures I have are of the first two flowers.  The primroses we did on our practice board and they were eaten in order to clean the board.  Sacrifices for the cause. lol.  We really like the taste of Royal Icing.
The flowers on the left are the apple blosoms and on the right are the primroses.

It was a lot of fun.  I'm really excited for these classes.

Next week we will be finishing the roses and I'll have pictures for your.  We will also be learning how to make the Daffodil, the Violet, and the Lily.  We will also be learning how to make the stems.

The last week is also going to be really fun.  We are supposed to bring in a cake already frosted and we will be learning how to basketweave.  That should be loads of fun.  We will also need to bring flowers that we have made ahead of time so decorate the cake.  I am so excited.  Then next month we will be moving on to Gumpaste and Fondant.  There is also a layered cake class that is two classes long that she is planning on doing either in October or November.

This has been so much fun.  I keep looking at all the Halloween decorations and am so excited to make things.  I just wish I had someone else to make them for so I didn't have to eat them lol.

Sorry no posts yesterday

Sorry I didn't post yesterday. It was a very busy day.  It started out with my 9 month old waking up early: 6:30 am.  So I fed her and then started working on the menu for this week so I could make a grocery list.  My friend and I swapped children so we could exercise.  I went for a nice bike ride for 30 minutes.

Then we went to the grocery store.  We spent our usual hour in Walmart.  Then we came home had lunch, put Yana to bed and then I worked on the dress I am altering for a girl.  Then when Yana woke up I made two batches of Royal icing for class.  That icing is sooo yummy!!!

Then I hurried and made dinner.  Ate dinner. Then loaded up the girls to take them to my friends house.  My husband was running a few minutes late.  So then we went to our class.

I'll post about class later with some pictures.

After class I came home cleaned up my stuff and then went back into my sewing room to work some more on that dress.  I wanted it done today so they could come try it on in case we needed to change something by Thursday.  I was up until almost midnight.  Then around 2 Yana decided it was time to wake up again.  I wish I could figure out what it is that makes her wake up.

Well that is why I didn't post yesterday.

Creme and white pullover bib has been posted

I started making these pullover bibs for my oldest who is now 3 1/2 years old.  She wouldn't wear the velcro or snap bibs.  She could pull them right off.  They seemed to bother her neck.  I made these for her and she loved it.  She eventually could put them on and take them off on her own and she just loved that.

It was made from a kitchen rag.  The neck is knit so it is soft.  They are easy to pack into a bag to take to restaurants, grandma and grandpa's, friends, and any place you want to take them.  They are wonderful at keeping their nice clothes clean.

I just posted this on my store.  Come check it out here.

Halloween table runner - finally posted!

Well I was going to post these last week but it was overcast and really dark in my house.  Today, however, it is really nice out so there was plenty of sunlight.  This is a fun table runner.

I has a pumpkin patch weaving from one end to the other.  It is 43.5 inches long and 12.75 inches wide.  It could be used on the table as in the pictures or on a coffee table, book shelf, desk, dresser or even an end table.

They are fun and festive.  I pieced it all together then sandwiched it and free motion stitched it.  The back is black and the stitching is orange so it stands out nicely.  The binding is orange with black stitching so it stands out as well.

It is cotton so it can be washed and dried.  It can even be ironed if needed.

I love table runners and I love making them even more.  Share this with your friends and family.

Halloween Table runner update

Well, I had planned on posting a table runner today but it is overcast outside and I don't have good light in my house.  That means that I can't take very good pictures of the runner.  So I am going to wait until I have better light.  I did however post another item to my store instead.  Come check it out.

My children are occupied so I will be heading to my sewing room to get more runners ready to post.  Sorry about the delay.

Just in time for the holidays!

This is a cute Thanksgiving themed pullover bib.  It is sized for a baby up to about 2 years of age.  If your children are anything like mine then they don't like bibs all that much.  My oldest would rip them off.  She hated the Velcro and the snap buttons.  We even tried the ones that tied.  She hated them all.  I made one like this for her and she loved it.  She is now 3 and has some that are a bit bigger.  She loves putting them on and taking them off all by herself.

I have a 9 month old who is following in her footsteps.  I can't keep any bibs on her unless it is a pullover bib.  It is hard enough keeping their clothes clean and unstained as it is.  These don't cost much and can't protect so many of their cutest outfits.

They are machine washable and very cute...but then again I am a little biased. :)

Come check them out at my store :IdahoAtHeart

You ever seen 200 pictures?

Do you remember when I shared the information on the 200 pictures for $1.99?  If you don't check out this post: 200 prints for $1.99.
Well they got here today.  The UPS driver just dropped them off.
I opened the box and this is what I saw.
Holy cow!  I had never seen 200 pictures like that before.
It is awesome.  There are a few pictures that were cropped but I'm not sure if that was how the picture actually was or not. The pictures look great.  I'm so glad I saw that deal.  I am definitely caught up for the year.
Did any of you catch that deal?
Have they arrived yet?

A good morning workout.

I had another great run this morning.  I have been pushing a little harder than usual.  I cut my run short by 10 minutes because it was sprinkling and looked like it was going to downpour.  I didn't want to get caught in a downpour.  It was 56 degrees this morning on my run and it was awesome.  I love cooler weather.

This morning was down to my lowest weight yet - this round.  It isn't much but was an improvement.  I was down to 187.0

So my goal for today is to get another 10 minutes of cardio today and to do my upper body strength training.

I have been trying to get in a daily ab workout as well.  I just have to be really determined.

Well my daughter is asleep and the sewing room is calling my name.

If you haven't gotten a good workout today make sure you schedule one it.  You will thank yourself for it later.

Blue and Black Flower Hair clip

This is another set of two flower hair clips.  They are black and blue.  The base layer is dark blue, the middle is light blue and then the top is black.  They are held together with a black jewel looking brad.

They have a felt circle on the back to cover the ends of the brad and to give it a nicer look.  The clip is a double pronged alligator hair clip.  The clip is held on with hot glue.

They work great with pig tails.  They are a great embellishment. Come check them out here.

A new store on Etsy

My sister has in the last few months opened up a store on Etsy.  I just found out and am trying to help get the word out there for her.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/DestinyHampton

She loves to draw and and would like to sell her drawings.  She also has a blog.

http://www.newageofidahoartsandcrafts.blogspot.com/

and a facebook page

https://www.facebook.com/pages/New-Age-of-Art-of-Idaho-Destiny-Hampton/125842387500784

She also sells hair clips and wash clothes.

Please check out her store and help me spread the word.

Orange and purple flower hair clip

This is the hair clip that I just posted this morning.  You get two of them.  My daughter wears these with pig tails.  As you can see in the picture there is a bat brad holding it all together.
On the back there is a double pronged alligator clip.  They are very cute and just in time for Halloween.

Come check it out at my store for the Orange and Purple Flower Hair Clip.  Share it with your friends.  Like it facebook and twitter.  They are very cute and so much fun.

Halloween table runners are progressing.

Do you ever have those days when you know you have stuff to do and really really don't want to do them?  Well I have them probably more often than I should.  Yesterday was one of them.  I knew I should work on my Halloween table runners but I didn't want to.
Good news.  I worked on them anyways and am so glad I did.  I got all four of them sandwiched.  Today my goal is to get at least one of them ready for binding.  That means that today I need to get my free motion stitching foot out and set up so I can get lost in my free motion sewing.

If you have forgotten what the material looks like check this post.  I am hoping to get one posted by Friday if not sooner.  Keep checking back for the next set of hair clips I will be posting today.

Camping last weekend

With the weather playing nice for a few days we decided to go camping.  We are tent campers.  We set up and take down camp every time.  We arrange it how we want it every time we go.  We take the mattress that I covered earlier.  We took our pack in play for Yana.  Now that she crawls it is hard to put her down.

This is our tent.  I got this tent for Christmas before I ever met my husband.
This is the fire pit.  We had to fight over it with a gigantic wasp of some kind.  It must of had a home near it.  The blanket you see in the back ground is where Yana sat and played while we set up the tent.  Don't worry we didn't start the fire until after she was standing her crib.
This is the rest of the stuff that we took with us.  My camp box, a cooler, food, water jug, propane tank, and a grill.
We took our volley ball with us and ended up kicking it around with Sarah Saturday after we had taken down most of our camp.  We are thinking about putting her in soccer.  She had so much fun.  We played for a while and then a couple campers from the camp in the background came over and played with us.  It was funny because I knew two of the campers from that camp.

We had so much fun.  We love to camp but don't want to melt doing so.  Hopefully when the weather cools down on a more permanent note we will go a lot.

Halloween Hair Clips

Halloween is almost here!!! Yay.  These cute little hair clips were just posted to my store.  They are a duo.  They would work great with pig tails like in the picture.  If you have two girls you could split them up and they could each wear one.
They would be a great way to show your excitement for Halloween.

Please come check out the information on my store.  Share the information with your friends.  Halloween will be here before we know it.  Lets get ready!

Monday, September 12, 2011

Well I had an awesome run this morning.  I decided to push harder than usual.  Sometimes I think I'm just being wimpy and today I think I proved that to myself.  I ran my miles 30 seconds faster than I have been.  That may not seem like much but it is a lot for me.  It felt great.

This weeks exercise line up is the same as last weeks:

Monday - run and strength train - upper body
Tuesday - Bike and strength train - lower body
Wednesday - video or resting
Thursday - Run and upper body
Friday Bike and lower body
Saturday - long run

Last week I started out good.  I ran and then biked and then after Wednesday I didn't do anything really.  I still lost weight until the weekend.  I lost 2 pounds last week and then gained 1 on the weekend.  I really need to get control of my weekends if I want to see this weight come off a bit faster.

I feel good and I am working on it.  I just think I mentally got burnt out last week.

I found out over the weekend that a few more of my friends are training for the same race as I am and it had me a little embarrassed by my current running.  That is why I pushed today and I'm so glad I did.

If you haven't found a few minutes to exercise today I would encourage you to find a few minutes for yourself and get your heart beating a little faster.

Last hair clip of these colors for a while

My daughter sure does like to have her picture taken.  Here is the last clip of this color scheme for a while.  I will start posting fall and Halloween hair clips tomorrow.

This one is just a little smaller in diameter than the first two that I posted.  It is very cute.  Made with the same flowers and same alligator clip.  They never fall out of my daughters hair and she absolutely loves them.  She always wants a flower in her hair.

This one has a black looking jewel brad in the center.

It has three layers.  White on the bottom, red/maroon in the middle and a cream flower on top.

They are so easy to use and would make great gifts to your daughters just because you love them.  Christmas is also coming fast and will be here before you know it.  They would make great stocking stuffers as well.

I hope that you like them as much as I do.

Another cute hair clip

I made several hair clips for Sarah with this color scheme.  We really like them but she only needs so many of this color.  This one is layered differently than the one I posted yesterday.  It doesn't have any cream flowers in it and it has a pearl looking brad holding it all together.

It also has the alligator clip.

I just posted it to my store so feel free to come look for more information.

I have another clip this color scheme that I'll post tomorrow Monday.  It is a little smaller.  Check back Monday for pictures when I post it.
After these are all posted I'll start posting my Halloween clips.

Just posted a Hair clip

A few weeks ago a friend showed me how to make these hair clips.  I have enjoyed making them so much that I have way too many for one child.  I have decided to start selling them on my store.  This one was just posted on my store.  www.IdahoAtHeart.etsy.com

It is a combination of 3 different flowers to get the look that it has.  The brad holding them all together is a star brad with a jewel in the center.  The clip is an alligator clip so it shouldn't slip.

My daughter loves these hair clips.  She almost always has one in her hair.  We usually pull her hair up in a pony tail and the puts it on tip of the pony tail.  In this picture it is just holding her hair in place and held well while she was posing for the pictures.

Come check out my store and see more information on this hair clip.  I'll post another one tomorrow.  Since they don't take that long to make and I can make them after my children are asleep I plan to make them regularly and post them on my store.

So confusing...

How many of you work really hard to eat right, exercise and just be healthy to watch the weight come off slowly?  Ok, so that is what I try to do.  I want to lose my weight the healthy way.  So yesterday was my rest day and we just bummed around.  I ate healthy but didn't really exercise.  I cuddled with my girls and then went to Mutual last night.

This morning I wasn't really excited to get on the scale but knew I better.  When I did was amazed at what it read.  I was down almost a whole pound.

That is what I find consuming.  The days when I exercise I lose a few ounces at a time and the day when I relax I lose almost double.

Anybody have any ideas as to why that is?

I am going to head on over to "Budgeting During College" and post how I'm doing.  I hope that everyone has had a great week so far.  It is Thursday...which means it's almost the weekend and this week is my husband's flex day.

I think we might go camping.

200 prints for $1.99

I don't usually put a lot of savings information on my blog but I liked this one.  If you go to Kodak you can order 200 prints for $1.99 shipped.

You have to have an account.  I opened one today and uploaded my pictures.  The uploading the pictures part took a little bit of time but was so worth it.  After I had 200 pictures chosen I submitted it to order and it was going to be $30.  But I kept going.  I think it asked for my address first and then when going to the next step it showed the total as $1.99.

Awesome to say the least.

I am now caught up for the year.  I don't print off very often and the last time I did was Christmas...just in time for the Christmas cards.

So if you need to print some pictures now would be a great time to do so.

Cake Decorating Course 2 - week 1

Last night was the first night of the second course.  We worked with Fondant and Gum paste.  It is the only time this course when we will work with it.  It was more just an introductory for us.  It was a lot of fun.  We made a button flower and a Pansy.
We made two of each.  Mine are all yellow and orange.  We also talked about Royal Icing.  We will be working with Royal Icing for the next 3 classes.
We put them in these bowls to help shape them.  The bigger ones are a little bit more shallow.  The small one is deeper so the petals stand up more.

The orange and yellow worked really well together.

Pansies were a little harder for me to get them to ruffle.

These flowers I made today.  My friend wasn't able to come last night so she came over this morning and I went over everything from class last night.  I made some more and tried putting them on this shaper.  I think I might make some more and then make some cupcakes tomorrow to put them on.  They are a lot of fun.

In this course will learn a few other flowers and how to weave the icing on the cake to get the basket appearance.

I am so excited.  I think next month is the Tall Cakes class.  I think that would be awesome.  I'll keep you posted after each class.  I don't have to make a cake or anything until the last class.
